Introducing the latest variety in Edgar Valdivia’s Asunta line: the Jellybean Breeze. In December 2021, Edgar entrusted me with a bucket of Asunta 7 seedlings, and I grafted a selection on the very same day. Just 18 months later, I became the first grower to successfully fruit one of these seedlings. The Jellybean Breeze flower is truly exquisite, with soft, pure white inner petals gently shaded in yellow and outer petals glowing in a golden hue. When I presented the fruit to Edgar on October 12, 2023, he praised its distinct features, incredible sweetness, and rich flavor. Its crimson red skin with wide fins sets it apart visually, while the vibrant magenta-red flesh is incredibly juicy, delivering tropical notes with a hint of cherry. The name Jellybean Breeze perfectly captures the experience of tasting this fruit. It’s like biting into a delicious jellybean, bursting with intense sweetness and cherry notes reminiscent of Dr. Pepper. With a Brix rating of 24.1, it’s the sweetest variety I have encountered. Now in its second season, Jellybean Breeze continues to impress with its bold flavor, making it a truly unique addition to the Asunta line.
