Donovan's Laverne Red is a red-fleshed dragon fruit variety renowned for its large fruit size, typically weighing 2 to 2.5 pounds, with 3-pound fruits not uncommon. The fruit offers a distinct watermelon-like flavor, is exceptionally juicy, and has a high sweetness level with a Brix rating of 20. This remarkable variety originates from La Verne Nursery in Piru, California, which initially provided numerous red-fleshed dragon fruit seedlings. Among these seedlings, Donovan Vasta discovered this particular variety, which was named in his honor.
