Purple Haze dragon fruit features vibrant purple flesh, a pinkish-red exterior, and green fins. Its flavor is refreshingly sweet, resembling grapes, with a Brix rating of 19.5. The fruits are large, typically weighing between 1.0 and 2.0 pounds, and the plant produces up to three fruiting cycles each year. This variety exhibits the classic three-sided, fast-growing nature of Hylocereus undatus, quickly filling in any space. Purple Haze originated as the 5-S seedling, a creation by Paul Thomson mentioned in his book Pitahaya. The 5-S is a hybrid of Rixford, a purple-fleshed variety, and Niezel, a white-fleshed variety.
